AI can rhyme. I have to mean.

AI can help make a song, but it does not create the soul of the song by itself. A music generator can copy and recombine patterns it has learned: how songs are shaped, how choruses rise, how lines rhyme, how certain styles usually sound, and what common emotional language looks like.

That can be powerful. It can also be empty if the human does not bring the reason the song exists. I do not use AI as a vending machine. I use it inside a human-led song workshop.

AI can help build the vessel. I have to bring the fire.

The way I think about Suno is simple: it is a studio band, not the songwriter. I bring the idea, story, rough lines, feeling, singer choice, and musical direction. Suno plays back possible versions. Then I listen, change, reject, fix, add, remove, and decide when the song is finally itself.

The Workflow

The song starts before the prompt.

My full loop is not complicated in spirit, but it is deliberate: vision, story, rough lines, singer choice, music feel, lyric shaping, Suno takes, listening, lyric repair, more takes, DAW import, stem shaping, leveling, dynamic restoration, EQ, limiting, mastering, and final release judgment.

1. I start with the human spark.

Before I ask AI for anything finished, I bring the first shape of the song. That may be a memory, a feeling, a broken phrase, a scene, a moral idea, a joke, a wound, a vow, a relationship, or a question I cannot leave alone.

  • The main idea or vision.
  • Rough lyric lines or broken phrases.
  • Where the song starts and where it should end.
  • What should be clear and what should stay hidden.
  • How direct or metaphorical the song should be.
  • What the song must not turn into.

AI can copy song patterns, but it cannot know why this song needs to exist. That reason has to come from me.

2. I feed the story behind the song.

Before building lines, I try to get the story under the song. Sometimes that means personal memory. Sometimes it is a scene, a dream image, a historical moment, or a feeling that needs a musical shape.

Outside information can help when it gives the song real ground under its feet. But the goal is not to write a report. The goal is to make the song more true.

3. I choose the singer for the song.

The singer is not just a sound. The singer is the person carrying the meaning. A playful song may need a different singer than a grief song. A dangerous song may need a close, controlled voice. A devotional song may need a calm, soft-strong voice.

If the singer feels wrong, the song can feel false even when the music sounds good.

4. I give the musical direction.

I may suggest key, chord path, BPM, instruments, genre, room, energy, and ending behavior. That helps Suno act more like a band following direction instead of a machine guessing from a few style words.

  • Key: the home feeling of the song.
  • Chord path: the repeating movement under the song.
  • BPM: the song speed.
  • Instruments: piano, guitar, bass, drums, strings, synths, and so on.
  • Feel: smoky, heavy, gentle, wide, close, dark, bright, country, K-pop, rock, EDM, ballad, or whatever the song needs.
  • Energy path: stay small, build slowly, explode, stay restrained, fade away, or end with impact.

5. I work the lyrics like clay.

Lyrics are not one final AI answer. I bring rough lines, thoughts, emotions, and vision. The assistant may suggest lines or verses. Then I check whether those lines carry what I meant. Lines get changed, replaced, cut, made more direct, made more metaphorical, moved around, or thrown out until the song starts to feel right.

The question is not, “Did AI write a nice line?” The question is, “Does this line carry the human vision?”

6. I give Suno a clear studio note.

The prompt is like telling the studio band what to play. I keep it clear: style, singer, instruments, emotional feel, and ending behavior. I do not expect Suno to understand my private shorthand. I translate the meaning into musical instructions it can actually use.

7. I use lyric directions carefully.

In Suno-style lyric blocks, plain text is meant to be sung. Square brackets are for silent directions, section labels, or arrangement notes. Parentheses are sung backing vocals, echoes, or adlibs when I intentionally want those layers.

8. I listen to takes for meaning first.

After Suno gives a take, I do not only ask whether it sounds good. I ask whether it carried the song’s reason for existing. A take can sound polished and still fail the song. A rougher take can show the right emotional direction.

9. I revise the right thing.

If the take is wrong, I do not just regenerate blindly. I decide what needs repair: the story, the singer, the lyric, the metaphor level, the arrangement, the chorus size, the vocal placement, or the ending.

10. When Suno has given all it can, I move into the DAW.

At some point Suno has given the song everything it can. That does not mean the song is finished. It means the AI part of the session is mostly done.

When I reach that point, I download the full WAV and the available stems. Then I bring that material into my DAW and start shaping it like a non-AI production session. I am not just accepting a finished file. I am taking the raw performance material and making it answer to the song.

From there I work on levels, dynamics, EQ, limiting, and mastering. I may restore movement that got flattened, tame harshness, clean up muddiness, rebalance the vocal, adjust the low end, control the stereo field, or make the song breathe again. If a part needs replacing or support, I may add live bass, piano, guitar, keys, or other parts. If the generated parts are already emotionally right, I may not add new instruments, but I still do the DAW work.

So the download is not the finishing line. It is the handoff point. I give Suno lyrics, direction, key, chord progression, feel, instrumentation, singer, vocal direction, and everything you would give a set of musicians in a studio. Then Suno gives me back material: a WAV file and stems. The DAW is where I shape, repair, balance, limit, master, and make the final human calls.

Final Authorship Check

I do not finish because it sounds finished.

I finish when the song carries the spark that started it.

What does the song say?

The track has to have a point of view, not just a style.

What would not exist without me?

The human decision, story, image, or emotional center has to be visible in the finished work.

Did AI make it generic?

If the system averaged out the song, I either repair it or reject it.

Did the singer feel right?

The voice has to carry the meaning, not merely decorate the track.

Did the words land?

A good-sounding line can still be the wrong line.

Did the ending leave the right feeling?

The song has to stop with the right residue.

Human-led result: specific, intentional, emotionally clear. Generic result: correct style, no real soul.

That is why I say: judge the music by what it becomes, not only by how it was made.

The future I want

AI music tools would be stronger if they helped the human direct the song more clearly instead of only generating finished results. For serious work, the future should be cleaner stems, better control, better export options, and a smoother handoff into the DAW, where the human can finish the production properly. The best future is not more automatic music. The best future is more human-directed music.
